Sara Akins is a new Architect in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She went to school at Drury University. In her free time Sara enjoys running, and spending time with her husband Wade, and two dogs, Phil and Doc.
This novel demands multidimensional thinking and multiple reads to somewhat comprehend what is going on. Even after reading a specific chapter ten times there are still more details and layers to be discovered. I keep a copy on my desk as a reminder there are a million different ways to approach a problem/solution.
This book outlines the humanitarian crisis of providing shelter for the most impoverished people of the world. Going through it in college opened my eyes to the important role architects have when it comes to widespread epidemic. If we are not doing good then what is the point?
In this trilogy Philip Pullman creates many worlds inside of worlds. The books pushes you to use your imagination and think outside of the box. For me it is a great escape and a reminder to use my imagination, anything is possible! .
I am most excited for the opportunity to have and leave a positive impact through architecture and design. A lot of what I do day to day is creating more desirable environments for seniors though Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing home design, making spaces where the greatest generation can live out their final days in peace and comfort. I look forward to continuing this work, and expanding to other types of spaces. If I can leave this world a better place through Architecture in Design I will feel like I have done my job.
My first boss Ken Corbin, he was the owner of a small architecture firm in Enid, OK. He talked me through a lot of the rough patches I hit in architecture school: not feeling good enough, creative enough, or smart enough. He encouraged and believed in me, and helped me believe in myself.
