Moscow artist, Julia Zass, shares her philosophy on drawing and seeing the beauty in life.
I grew up in a small town in Ukraine and when I was 8 my family moved to Moscow. I graduated as a fashion designer and eventually became a web designer and illustrator. Currently, I work for the website builder startup, Tilda.
I enjoy traveling, healthy food, a minimalist lifestyle, and most of all, I love to draw. I have been drawing all my life and am always looking for new ways to create. This passion eventually led me to my Drawing Journal project.
The fun fact is that I was trying to remember a fun fact about myself, to answer this question, for such a long time that I eventually fell asleep :)
My hope is to inspire people to draw and create, to see interesting things among the commonplace, and to appreciate small moments. Art makes our life brighter and it’s only in our hands that it can make it more joyful.
I think that it’s not really about "what to draw", it’s about your perception of your environment and ability to make everything beautiful with the help of your imagination. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I’m convinced that anyone can create something beautiful. Art is first of all about an idea, drawing technique comes in second place. If you want to create, just be patient, open to inspiration, and practice as much as you can. The rest will come with your persistence and determination.
Julia Zass is working on a wonderful new book about her own creative journey and how everyone can use drawing to gain a better personal understanding. Learn more about The Wonders of Daily Drawing by Julia Zass.
